ECO-FRIENDLY WEDDINGS

3 easy things to check before your wedding day to make sure it's environmentally friendly and beautiful

A blog post collaboration

In the USA, there are over 2 million marriages each and every year. These weddings are often full of love, meaningful romantic quotes, happiness, dancing and fun with friends and family. They are a great day all about the uniting of two individuals who plan on spending the rest of their lives together.

Unfortunately, many weddings also produce a lot of waste. Between the packaging, the decor, the gift wrapping and everything else, a lot of things end up being thrown away.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. There are some ways to ensure your wedding is not only beautiful and fun, but also friendly to their environment. Without any further ado, let’s go over some things to check and do to make sure your gorgeous wedding is also eco-friendly.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DECOR

One of the best ways to boost the environmental-friendliness of your wedding is to use decor that isn’t harmful to the environment. If your decor is only used once and then tossed, that can be a big waste.

Consider using recycled materials for your decor, or decor that has already been used by others in the past. Also, finding decor that can be reused or re-sold (or is even rented) is another way to help reduce the waste that your wedding ends up producing. Built-in decor like scenic areas, plants, or interesting landscapes are also a good idea. The less of your decor is only a one-time-use item, the better.

Also, in addition to decor, things like invitations and table numbers could also be created with environmental friendliness in mind.

FIND A SUSTAINABLE VENUE

Another great way to think about making your wedding more eco-friendly is to find a sustainable venue. You want to choose a venue that uses sustainable resources, and practices environmental-friendliness when they can.

This could be through the use of solar power, efficient appliances, more efficient lighting, and other things like that. Even if your wedding itself is as sustainable as possible, if the venue isn’t, your wedding could still be harming the environment.

If you’re not sure about a venue and how green they are, consider reaching out. Many will be happy to share the environmentally-friendly practices that they have in place. Also, with eco-friendliness becoming more popular amongst individuals, many venues are going green, so finding a suitable and sustainable venue shouldn’t be very difficult.

CONSIDER ECO-FRIENDLINESS WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR REGISTRY

Your registry is another area where you can be environmentally friendly. If you live an eco-friendly lifestyle, this can be reflected in the type of gifts you ask for from attendees. Many types of items created today are done so with the environment in mind, so finding things to add shouldn’t be hard.

This could be clothing, kitchen gadgets and anything in between. Who knows, your eco-friendliness may even inspire others to choose similar paths in their lives. Another option is to consider a charity registry or include a few of your favorite charities in your traditional registry.

Doing this allows people to make donations in your name, as opposed to getting you something directly, which could lead to more waste. You could choose a charity close to your heart, and feel good knowing you helped those in need on your special day. This is an especially good idea if you and your partner don’t really need much.

By keeping these three things in mind, you can ensure your wedding day is not only beautiful but also eco-friendly at the same time.
