"There are so many fun parts of wedding planning, but the best of all has to be the cake. It’s the only part that involves eating cake in the name of research!
Whilst it can be fun to pick your cake, it can also be a little daunting, so here are some trends and tips for 2018/19 brides and grooms to be.
I can lose hours finding cake inspiration in the planning stages of my next delicious centrepiece. From magazines, blogs and of course building up my Pinterest boards, but these three trends are the ones to watch this season:
Gold - there has definitely been a rise in the ‘Midas Touch’ when it comes to wedding cakes, from gold cake toppers to painted gold leaf, cakes are making very shiny statements. And it’s not just traditional gold; other metallic colours like silver, pewter, rose gold and bronze are all on trend for
wedding cakes this year.
Marble - I’m really loving marble cakes at the moment - not the sponge but the icing on the outside! Paired with geometric designs or flecks of gold, having a marble pattern is the way to add an interesting pop of your wedding colour into your wedding cake.

Naked - unsurprisingly Naked and Semi Naked Cakes are going to stay a firm favourite too. But, there are some variations you should know about that are giving this classic a trendy twist – just search for ombré naked cake, square naked cake or naked fruit cake to see what I mean! There have even been some trends on the inside of the cake too. I’ve seen the Ella Rose Cakes clients more often choosing multiple flavours and fillings to differentiate each tier of their wedding cake (who said you can’t have it all?). Fruit cake will last the longest and please the older generation expecting tradition at your wedding, but opting for a vanilla
sponge with lemon or rose buttercream are growing to be popular flavours.

TIPS FROM THE EXPERT
As you start your wedding cake journey remember a few things:
Book early – just like the best photographers, cake makers will get booked up well in advance. Avoid disappointment by making contact around 6 months before your big day.
Dream big – trust me, there are ways to get the cake of your dreams in the budget of your reality. Whether it’s using some fake tiers or a cutting cake behind the scenes don’t be put off asking how your vendors can make magic happen.
Be prepared – Your cake maker and vendor will need to know some details about how your cake will feature in your special day. Think about the following questions in advance: How many people does your cake need to feed? When will you cut and serve your cake? Do you want a tier of wedding cake
Get inquisitive – Your vendors will have questions for you but don’t forget you can ask questions too. Can they cater for any dietary requirements? When do they require payment? Who will be setting up your cake on the day?".
