Adventurous wedding photographer based in Italy | Session location: Mottarone, Lake Orta.
Planning in advance surely gives a huge help, victory lies in preparation, right? Well not quite right I guess, let me share with you this little story.
Last April Benni and I went all the way from Hastings (UK) and Florence (Italy) to Lake Orta, a beautiful lake in the northern part of Italy surrounded by the Alps, to photograph a styled shoot. As wedding photographers based in Italy, we really wanted to create some content for a part of our country that we love so much and in which we would like to work more and more in the future.
Benni and I had been working on the shoot for a couple of months, looking for the best flowers, the dress, the location, the best time in April to take pictures on top of Mottarone in order to get a view of all the surrounding lakes. As you might know, Benni is based in the UK. When you travel from the UK to Italy, you ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, expect to find good weather. I can’t exactly tell you why, it’s simply a fact. When eventually you are in Italy and it rains, well, it’s probably the biggest disappointment EVER (isn’t it so?!).
Well, guess what?! We simply managed to catch the rainiest week in Northern Italy of all April!! We had a few other photoshoots scheduled all around and all of them were terribly rainy.
This styled shoot was not an exception. While driving towards Lake d’Orta we kept on repeating, “no worries, it’s simply impossible it will rain, we are in Italy after all!!”.. Well, let me tell you what, once we were at the top of the mountain it was pretty much snowing!!
Eventually it turned out to be just fine, the storm we caught created such a beautiful and dramatic light that having such a big storm turned out to be actually a bliss.
It doesn’t show in the pictures, but it was freaking cold and wet!!
We leave you to the post, hopefully next time we will be a little bit luckier! :)
